The Thespians’ Guild at Ft. White High School was founded by Jeanie Wilks in the Spring of 2008.
Beginning with a few English students, a small class of Mr. Joiner’s drama students , and Alligator Community Theater (A.C.T.) , Ft. White High School celebrated our first Shakespearian Birthday.
Since then we have grown to three full- time drama classes with roughly 90 students in addition to those who join us outside of class time.
Last Year, FWHS Thespians’ Guild opened the Olustee Festival with a production of “Our American Cousin” which was the play produced at Ford’s Theater the night of April 14, 1865. The production was a success with over 500 in attendance.

We also produced a Civil War version of “ Romeo and Juliet” , set in Northern Florida in April for our Fourth Annual Shakespeare Festival at FWHS.

After such success, we felt that it was time to give back to the community which has so graciously supported our growth and development.
Each production this past year would have cost well over $10,000 in props , costumes and supplies but with the help of the Columbia County Historical Museum and Re-enactment groups, we were able to produce historically accurate portrayals with our zero dollar budget. FWHS also has no auditorium so our thespians have learned to adjust to various staging situations.
With this in mind, FWHS Thespians’ Guild has devoted this year to helping the community and especially the Columbia County Historical Museum; researching and developing characters, both real and imagined , from our local history to perform at Olustee and later to serve as docents for the museum.
This allows our students to learn new acting skills as well as their local history while earning volunteer hours for scholarships and helping the Museum to stay open more hours each week. Next year, our FWHS Thespians’ Guild will return to the stage for Shakespeare Festival V at FWHS as well as participating in other community ventures.
