2010 Parade Co-Marshall Victor (Vic) Vasco

Vic Vasco was born in Leesville, Louisiana in 1929. Her married Betty Williams in 1949 and they had three children: Douglas, Deborah and Dale. They are approaching their 61st anniversary.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17. Vic spent 23 ½ years in service to his country and retired as an E7 Gunnery Sgt. He finished his 30 years service to this country in the Fleet Reserve.

He moved to Lake City and went to work for Aero Corporation. While at Aero he became interested in law enforcement and joined the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. At the same time he was serving in the US Power Squadron as Commander, and Civil Air Patrol as a Captain.

In 1976 Vic went to school to get his law enforcement degree. He became a member of the Columbia County Sheriff Department and rose to the rank of Chief Deputy. He left the department in January 1980 and went to the Department of Agriculture as a Special Officer and retired a second time on December 30, 1994.

Vic remembers the first reenactment that was held on the 50 yard line at the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville. He later became involved in forming Company B and also the 54th Massachusetts group. His role as a reenactor has been an active one but for about 20 years he was standing guard on the charge that was set off n the center of the Square and led the capture of the cannon that was turned back onto the union troops.

Vic Vasco has not missed a single Battle of Olustee in its 34 year existence. He is committed to being there and taking part in some way to make the event better and more authentic.

He stays busy and is currently working on the Alligator Fest which is an annual event in Lake City.
