The Lake Desoto Skirmish and Battle of the Ironclads is a sight you will not want to miss! Taking place on the shore of Lake Desoto, Confederate troops defend the town of Lake City against the incoming Union troops marching toward Lake City. This small reenactment commemorates the first engagement of the Battle of Olustee when advancing Union Skirmishers on their march west intercepted a line of Confederate troops near Lake City.

While the infantry battle on shore, the Battle of the Ironclads takes place in the glassy water of the lake. Replicas of the Merrimac and the Monitor engage in a demonstration of naval warfare. Although, a naval battle did not take place during the Battle of Olustee, the purpose is to highlight and recreate the Navy's importance in the Civil War and showcase a part of history that is not well known. Join us on Friday evening at 5pm on the banks of Lake Desoto as the Confederate troops defend the town of Lake City!

The Annual Olustee Festival Skirmish can seen Friday Night at 5:30pm on Lake Desoto (located behind the courthouse in downtown Lake City.)
