Dr. Lawrence Barrett became the fourth president of Florida Gateway College (FGC) on July 27, 2015. Since he arrived at FGC he has involved students, faculty/staff and the community in creating and implementing a new Strategic Plan based on significant growth, student centeredness and increased performance measures.
An important part of the continued success of FGC is increasing enrollment and implementing strategies to increase new enrollments while also simultaneously increasing retention and graduation rates. Dr. Barrett has worked with the entire campus community in breaking down barriers to student success. This includes the creation of a one-stop Student Success Center that places all tutorial and supplemental services in one building while also creating student success coaches in that same area to work in coordination with each other to improve student’s success.
Since his arrival at FGC enrollment has increased by 10.2 percent in headcount and 16 percent in FTE. During his 31 year career, Dr. Barrett has served in various leadership positions at four year, community and technical colleges and has spoken at various national conferences on enrollment management/student service topics. Before his Presidency at FGC he served five years as President at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor Maine.
Barrett received his doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.1
